Retreat and Conference Centres

Kithu Sevena, Colombo

Warm, safe, affordable accommodation in Colombo for students taking part in activities in the city, and for clergy and lay people engaged in mission work. The Centre exists to serve students, young people and the wider community in a way that shows Christian values. In the last year it served 300 guests in rooms and 1,132 in dormitories, and 7,708 meals. The hall was in use for around 1,300 hours and the board room for 348. The sewerage system has been rebuilt from end to end, and the shared bathrooms stripped back, waterproofed and retiled, so guests now have much better facilities. The roof and a full repaint are next.

Meals are limited to mission related guests, and the Centre takes special orders for meals from the Diocese. Rates were revised during the year to keep pace with costs.

Buona Vista Conference Centre, Galle

Buona Vista Conference Centre in Galle is a Diocese of Colombo institution in the south of the island. It offers a peaceful setting for retreats, conferences, workshops and church gatherings, serving parishes, groups and organisations in the Galle area and beyond.

Karuna Nilayam, Kilinochchi

The indoor and outdoor facilities at Karuna Nilayam are available for pre-school programmes, church activities, psychosocial programmes and community initiatives, and accommodation is provided for visiting groups working in the Northern Province. Its position in the centre of Kilinochchi makes it a practical base for work across the north.

Oppuravillam, Vavuniya

A new residential building at Oppuravillam, the reconciliation centre at Kokkuveli Junction in Vavuniya, sleeps more than twenty people and is available for retreats, workshops, seminars and residential programmes. Groups who stay see the Church's work of reconciliation in the north at first hand, and Oppuravillam intends to become a study centre for visitors from other districts and from abroad.
